The James Bond Martini

The James Bond martini appears in his very first book (by Ian Fleming), Casino Royale. In chapter 7, we read:

"A dry martini," he said. "One. In a deep champagne goblet."

"Oui, monsieur."

"Just a moment. Three measures of Gordon's, one of vodka, half a measure of Kina Lillet. Shake it very well until it's ice-cold, then add a large thin slice of lemon-peel. Got it?"

Lillet is a type of Vermouth that you can still find in many stores. Gordon's is a gin. Where most martinis are made with gin, and vodka martinis are just made with vodka, Bond wildly mixes them both up.

A TRICK:

By shaking it, you make the drink cold, which is key for most vodka drinks to taste well. It also mixes the vodka and gin well, giving it a good texture.

The next time you're mixing drinks, try making one shaken and one stirred. See if you can taste the difference!

reminds me of the time my wife wasn't staying with me yet here in Metro Manila. Yung mga kabarkada ko, nakagiliwan namin ang mixing drinks. Vodka mixes ang masarap! Peborits namin yung grasshopper at may isa pang color orange na masarap pero tatamaan ka pag tumayo ka na. Ok din yung B54. Flamed drink on a shotglass na layered ang choco liquor, coffee liquor tapos vodka on top. Douse the flame then drink with a straw. Rapsa!

Di na pwede ngayon, may bantay na e. Pero at least nagawa namin noon hehehe!

@Mari, tagay mo na. sarap nga vodka, mura pa, S$22 lang sa duty free shop ang absolute, then you can use to experiment on hundreds of mixes.

@Watson, wow bossing, magkakasundo tayo dyan! sarap nga yang grasshopper - mix of mint and choco at yang B54 din, do you know na meron ding B52 & B53-layered drinks?

@Cerridwen, yups, vodka din, best when chilled.
